Many thanks. It was an amazing holiday. To our surprise we much preferred Guatemala to Costa Rica. This was mainly because of the broader range of experiences. Guatemala has wildlife, but also Spanish colonial towns, Mayan ruins and ongoing Mayan culture which was fascinating. Costa Rica seemed to be only about the forest and wildlife. There were many adventure experiences (rafting, ziplining etc) but we were not exposed to any culture or interesting architecture (except for the National Theatre in San Jose). Great if you are physically adventurous or a bird watcher. Also, it seemed as if the agents in Guatemala and the guides were more anxious to provide an excellent service. There was nothing wrong with the service in Costa Rica but it was given with less enthusiasm. We loved being shown around Antigua and the villages on Lake Atitlan and the ruins at Tikal. The hotel at Tikal (Las Lagunas) was superb and the only hotel where the food was outstanding. In Costa Rica the hotels at Uvita and Golfo Dulce were also excellent with very good food. The last hotel was in a setting like paradise. However there was one issue with that setting. I very much like heat but the temperature and humidity were punishing. It was well nigh impossible to go for hikes during the day or even sit outside for a few minutes without being left in a sweaty heap and burnt from the sun. There were quite a lot of Brits suffering with the heat!!
These are minor gripes and I only mention them so you have honest feedback. We had a fabulous time and thank you for your efforts in ensuring that the holiday went so well
