Day 1 Arrival
You’ll be greeted at Juan Santamaría International airport and taken to your hotel in San José, where you can relax after your flight.
Day 2 Pacuare River rafting
Kick off your stay with an exhilarating day rafting on the gorgeous Pacuare River. Your day will start early with a typical Costa Rican breakfast in Siquirres, before donning your rafting gear and paddling 19 miles into a protected zone of unmatchable beauty. You’ll pass stunning canyons, gorges and waterfalls, your way lined with dense rainforest alive with jaguars, monkeys, ocelots and birdlife. Enjoy a picnic lunch on the bank then continue to your lodge for some rest before dinner.
Day 3 Pacuare River rafting – Sarapiquí
Awake to tropical birdsong and a rushing river – there’s no better alarm clock. After breakfast, you’ll be rafting the second part of the Pacuare River, conquering class III and IV rapids before concluding with lunch.
Pick up your private 4×4 and drive to Sarapiquí. Here you’ll explore the forests, swamps and plantations by following a network of trails – look out for protected species of birds, butterflies, felines and insects. Your day ends at your comfortable lodge.
Day 4 Sarapiquí
After breakfast, you’re off to ride with members of the Quintana family, local horse trainers. They’ll guide you on horseback through a landscape of jungle, rivers and pasture, ending with a restaurant lunch. You’ll have the afternoon free to explore or rest.
Day 5 Sarapiquí – Arenal
After breakfast, explore San Carlos, with its forests, lakes, crop fields, hot springs and the imposing Arenal Volcano, the most active in the country. It stands 5,437 feet tall, looming over the surrounding green hillsides and its visitors.
Exploration over, it’s time to check in to your spa hotel and relax in the thermal waters.
Day 6 Arenal Hanging Bridges – Rincón de la Vieja
Today you’re off to the Mistico Arenal Hanging Bridges for an eye-opening nature walk. Observe the birds and plants of the rainforest up close from a three-kilometre network of forest floor trails and hanging bridges at tree level. Over 50 species of birds thrive here, making this a true birdwatcher’s heaven.
After your day hiking in the rainforest, you’ll take the car to your next hotel in Rincón de la Vieja.
Day 7 Rincón de la Vieja
Take your fill at breakfast – you’ve got a packed day ahead.
First up is a Canyon Canopy Tour, which features abseiling, rock climbing, zip line, Tarzan swings, via ferrata and hanging bridges, all set in a majestic canyon.
As if that wasn’t enough, you’re off river tubing in Río Negro. Set off from your hotel on horseback before starting your tubing adventure at the foot of the Victoria Waterfall.
Day 8 – 10 Guanacaste
Time to hit the beach. Spend some time on the beautiful North Pacific Gold Coast for a relaxing stay at Potrero Beach. Discover Guanacaste province, with its combination of wet, humid forest and patches of now rare tropical dry forest. Explore a coastline peppered with bays and gulfs, grey, white and golden sands, and bordered with forested cliffs, volcanoes and wild rivers. The clear ocean waters offer frequent glimpses of local sealife and plenty of birds are to be spotted at the shoreline.
Day 9 Potrero Beach – San José
Enjoy breakfast before driving back to San José and dropping off your trusty vehicle. You’ll have the rest of the day to relax at your hotel before the journey home.
Day 10 Goodbye Costa Rica
After breakfast, you’ll be taken back to Juan Santamaría International airport to catch your flight home. See you next time…
