This itinerary isn’t set in stone. Pick, mix, swap however you like – your trip will be totally tailor made for you.

Day 1
Arrival

You’ll arrive at Juan Santamaría International airport and be accompanied to your hotel in San José.

Day 2
San José – Tortuguero

It’s an early start from your hotel today, starting with a bus ride through Braulio Carrillo National Park. Learn more about one of Costa Rica’s biggest exports at a banana packing plant then board a boat at Caño Blanco pier and drift off into the Tortuguero waterways.

Lunch with a cocktail will be waiting at your lodge. You’ll be able to fit in a guided visit to the little town of Tortuguero, the beach and the Caribbean Conservation Corporation before dinner.

Day 3
Tortuguero

Set off on a guided walking tour to explore the nearby trails. In the afternoon, board a canal tour through Tortuguero National Park, a famous nesting site for the green turtle between June and November. Admire the birds, monkeys, sloths, crocodiles and caimans from an open-topped boat. And keep your eyes peeled for some of the endangered species that also call the park home, such as manatees, tapirs and jaguars.

Day 4
Tortuguero – Arenal

Join a shuttle bus or drive to San Carlos, with its forests, lakes, crop fields, hot springs and the imposing Arenal Volcano, the most active in the country.

Day 5
Arenal

Have a lazy breakfast at your hotel, then spend the day doing whatever you like. Unwind on the premises or join a local hike if you’ve got a spring in your step.

Day 6
Arenal – Manuel Antonio

Check out time – today you’re going to Manuel Antonio. Here you’ll find beaches of white sand, sheer cliffs, rivers winding through dazzling rainforest and yet more exciting animals. In Manuel Antonio National Park you can catch a glimpse of two and three-toed sloths, red-backed squirrels and tons of birdlife, and see vistas change from grazable grasslands back to the blue-green waters of the coast again.

Day 7 & 8
Manuel Antonio

Time to rest up and enjoy the surroundings of Manuel Antonio. Not tired? Plenty of tours and excursions on your doorstep.

Day 9
Manuel Antonio – San José

Take it slow this morning. It’ll soon be time to wend your way back to San José.

Day 10
All good things come to an end

One final pack and you’re back at Juan Santamaría International airport waiting for your flight home.
