Day 1
Arrival in Kuching

Land in Kuching, where you’ll be greeted by your guide and accompanied to your hotel.

Day 2
Kuching

Start the day with a city tour, covering Chinatown, the Sarawak Museum, the golden-domed City Mosque and the Old Kuching quarter, as well as the heritage buildings of the White Rajah era. Finish off with a scenic river cruise.

Day 3
Kuching – Tayan – Sanggau

Board a boat to Tayan on the Kapuas River, where you’ll disembark for lunch and a walk around this river town, before sailing onward to Sanggau for an evening walk around the bustling port here.

Day 4
Sanggau – Sekadau

Board a longboat up the Sekayam River to see pounding waterfalls and hot springs in the jungle, then continue to the lively town of Sekadau. Board another boat to visit the Lawang Shrines on the rock face.

Day 5
Sekadau – Sintang

Another day on the water, coming ashore at Sintang to visit the old palace in this picturesque riverside town.

Day 6
Sintang – Selimbau

In the morning, visit an orangutan rehabilitation centre then set off on a truck ride to Bukit Kelam, an enormous rock. If you’re in good shape, you can scale it by rope ladder. If that doesn’t appeal, visit the longhouse at Ensaid Panjang, a centre for weaving.

Set off down a man-made canal (dug by Japanese soldiers in wartime) and moor overnight at the pretty town of Selimbau, built entirely on stilts.

Day 7
Selimbau – Sentarum National Park

Explore Selimbau with your guide then take to the water again for a lake cruise. You can stop and explore the shores or see more orangutans at a conservation centre.

Day 8
Sentarum lakes

Glide around on the lakes, looking out for proboscis monkeys, orangutans, crocodiles and birds. You can stop to fish or simply explore the local flora close up.

Day 9
Sentarum

Visit Pulau Melayu island and its shrines, glide past honey farms lining the shores and stop at pretty fishing villages.

Day 10
Home time

Leave the boat behind today. You’re back on the road to Kuching to catch your return flight.
