Day 1 Arrival in Cancun
Enjoy your first glimpses of the turquoise Caribbean waters lapping at the shore as you come in to land at Cancun International Airport. Your guide will take you to your hotel to settle in.
Day 2 Izamal
Today you’ll visit Izamal, a charming little city defined by its distinctive yellow and white buildings, its Franciscan monastery and some pre-Hispanic architecture, such as the Kinich Kak Moo pyramid. This ancient Mayan city was built upon by the Spanish and the people here still keep several Mayan traditions alive. Take a guided walking tour then ride by horse and carriage through the romantic streets of the ‘yellow city’.
Day 3 Uxmal – Loltun Caves
Today you’ll take a guided tour of Uxmal, in the Puuc region. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is an ancient Mayan city representing the Puuc architectural style. Explore the Magician’s Pyramid, the Quadrangle of the Nuns, the Governor’s Palace and the ballgame court.
Continue to the Loltun Caves to see imposing stalagmites and stalactites, as well as ancient Mayan cave paintings. Move on to the Ecomuseo del Cacao to learn about the chocolate-making process.
Day 4 Celestun
You’re off to the coast to check in to an eco-resort in the fishing town of Celestun. The main draw is the Ría Celestun biosphere reserve, where you’ll find white-tailed deer, armadillos, crocodiles, ocelots, bush turkeys and a flamingo colony.
Day 5 Celestun
You’ve got the day free to explore the jungle setting and local beach of your eco-resort. You can opt to tour the area by boat to get a closer look at some of the wildlife here. You can even take a moonlit safari to spy on crocodiles.
Day 6 Merida
Continue onward to Merida, the main city of the Yucatán state, packed with parks, stunning architecture and fantastic regional cuisine. Follow your guide on a tour of the city’s highlights, then check in to a charming local hotel.
Day 7 Chichen Itza
Today you’ll travel to Chichen Itza, one of the best-preserved Mayan sites in the area. Its most famous landmarks are the Temple of Kukulkan, the Platform of the Skulls, the Temple of the Jaguar, the Observatory, the One Thousand Columns and the Sacred Cenote. Finish your tour then continue to your beachside hotel.
Day 8 Riviera Maya
Enjoy a free day to use the hotel facilities, hit the beach or explore the towns of Cancun or Playa del Carmen.
Day 9 Farewell Mexico
You’ll be taken to the airport for your return flight. Be sure to come back soon…
