This itinerary isn’t set in stone. Pick, mix, swap however you like – your trip will be totally tailor made for you.
Day 1 Arrival in Cusco
You’ll be greeted at the airport and accompanied to your hotel in the Sacred Valley. On the way, your guide will brief you on Cusco’s attractions and take you around the Inkariy Museum, where the various stages of Peruvian civilisation are brought to life.
Day 2 Sacred Valley – Pisac – Ollantaytambo
Start your tour at the Pisac market, packed with locally made items, such as alpaca textiles, musical instruments, paintings and jewellery. Continue to the Pisac archaeological site, where you’ll find the largest complex of Inca-era agricultural terraces in the area. Lastly, visit Ollantaytambo, an old town where Incan traditions are still proudly upheld.
Day 3 Sacred Valley – Machu Picchu – Cusco
Board a train to Aguas Calientes, the last stop before you enter the magnificent Machu Picchu complex. Take a quick tour of the town, before entering the Incan citadel. Tour this fascinating site with your guide, or join extra optional tours to the Sun Gate, the Inca Bridge and other points of interest. Return to Aguas Calientes for lunch before boarding the train back to your hotel.
Day 4 Cusco
Begin the day at the Coricancha (Temple of the Sun), then move on to the cathedral and the imposing remains of the Inca fortress of Sacsayhuaman. Continue to the archaeological complex of Quengo, believed to be the site of ancient agricultural rituals.
Finally, explore PukaPucara, a complex of alleged military use, comprising plazas, baths, aqueducts, walls and towers, before returning to your hotel.
Day 5 Cusco – Southern Valley
Today you’re off to Tipon, a well-preserved archaeological site outside Cusco, then continue to Pikillacta, a pre-Inca site with links to the even older culture of the Wari. Here you can walk among stone and mud buildings and see the head of a condor carved into a cliff. Finish your day visiting the church at Andahuaylillas, known as the Sistine Chapel of America due to the artwork within.
Day 6 Bid farewell to Peru
Enjoy your last breakfast in Peru – you’re off to the airport for your return flight.
