Day 1 Arrival in the Amazon Reserve
Touch down at Madre de Dios airport, where you’ll be welcomed by your guide and taken to the river port. Board a boat down the Madre de Dios River to your lodge, acquainting yourself with the jungle surroundings as you go.
In the afternoon, take a guided walk through the nature trails to discover the local insect, bird and plant life. Next up is a river cruise to watch the sun go down and catch a glimpse of some nocturnal creatures – capybaras, alligators, owls and more. Later you’ll attend a talk about the local environment.
Day 2 Amazon Reserve
Glide across Lake Sandoval in Tambopata National Reserve in a narrow canoe and spy on the protected creatures living here. You might see red howler monkeys, giant river otters or anacondas.
In the afternoon, head up to the Inkaterra Canopy, a network of suspended bridges set 45 metres off the ground. These are your viewing platforms for all sorts of creatures and plants: monkeys, toucans, woodpeckers, orchids and many different types of tree. You’ll learn more about the Amazon environment over dinner back at the lodge.
Day 3 Amazon Reserve
A boat will drop you off for a jungle trek along the Gamitana Creek, where you might see piranhas, turtles and alligators. Head back for lunch through the rainforest by river, admiring the scenery along the way.
Your afternoon excursion is to the Hacienda Concepción to learn about the hundreds of plant species here. Get back onto the water for a canoe safari to spot turtles, herons and nightjars. You can choose to pack even more into the day, with an exciting night trail through the Inkaterra Ecological Reserve.
Day 4 Your Amazon adventure ends
Enjoy your last breakfast at the lodge then board the boat back to Puerto Maldonado, where you’ll stop to see the incredible Butterfly Farm, home to thousands of species.
